In order of decreasing awesomeness. Or is it increasing awesomeness? I can never keep those straight in my head. Fine, 1 = awesome, 6 = pretty boring. And premieres always trump finales in the excitement index, hence Leverage’s higher placing over the closest thing I’ve got to a favourite tv show.
- 17-19: Calgary Comic Con! Cuz Dragon*Con wasn’t enough. Or, rather, I’m going with a different group of friends.
- 26: Leverage season 4!
- 13&20: Last two Sanctuary episodes of the season. And it looks like the period of crappiness is well behind us so omg omg omg.
- 22: The day Virgin (allegedly) switches to SaskTel’s new lines and thus gets the SIM phones. I plan on upgrading from this piece of crap (except I totally have the green version and I didn’t buy it refurbished) to this slightly less crappy piece of crap. I still can’t afford an iPhone.
- 24: Payday! As is today, but I think the money is already in my chequing account so I’m no longer looking forward to it.
- 29: I suppose I should put my birthday on the list.

So, I was talking with Darcy on twitter (something we never, ever do, nope, we never have anything to say to each other and we certainly never use capslock and fight over River who is totally mine anyway) and, unsurprisingly, was whining about the sheer stupid that can come out of the Doctor Who fandom on fandomsecrets. I mean, damn, if you want fandom related wank, just look at any of the DW secrets on f!s. At one point, I think we joked about how even a post about how everyone is wonderful and lovely would generate wank and I was all I am so testing this! So I spent over an hour (I have no life, clearly) making a 600×600 image of every Doctor and Companion and submitted last Saturday. Then I promptly forgot about it.
Turns out that it was posted yesterday (on the first day possible, hmm) and I was amused and skipped down to the comments to view the epic wank that love would produce.
Aaaand there was none. It was like a whole slew of people appeared to profess that I/the characters/Doctor Who was awesome and that everything must be full of love. There was only one negative comment in the entire thing, and that was just someone questioning the validity of how someone could love every Doctor Who character simply because there are so many and are so different. And it wasn’t even a wanky comment (though at least one anon jumped on it to create a little bit of wank) – very calm and rational. Whoever that anon is, I like them.
Anyway, here’s the thread if you ever need a reminder that the Doctor Who fandom isn’t entirely full of hate. :D

by Nikkiin tv, writing Tags: college au, hockey, rizzoli & isles, summer writing marathon
Just so that everyone knows, I didn’t fail at my summer writing plans from day one. I wrote just over a thousand words yesterday, which I insist on being impressive, what with game one of the playoffs was played that day. And, omg, what a game. Took until, what, 38 seconds until the end of the third (and final) period for the first goal of the match to be scored? And by the Canucks, so my team totally won game one? Yeah. Awesome. And the Bruins’ goalie, Tim Thomas, was bloody amazing. So many good saves.
But, as per usual, I digress.
I ended up starting to write the Rizzoli & Isles college AU simply cuz it requires no planning. I have enough plot details in my head for that and, well, it’s not like I have to develop characters with fanfic. I just have to stop college!Jane from being too much like me. But it’s kinda hard when I’m writing Jane having a bitch of a time in biochem (gee, writing from your own experiences much, Nikki?) and having her stubbornness work destructively against her. Jane is a lot more focused and assertive than I am (and had more on the line), though, and is thus actually willing to get help and is far less destructive than I am. (Or maybe it was just the lure of Maura’s boobs. I would totally be willing to ask for help if the TA looked like Maura Isles.)
Still. She’s behaving way too much like me and it’s bugging me. Maybe I should rewatch R&I for the fourth time (more, for some episodes) to ensure that I have her character down. :P
In all seriousness, this is actually a pretty common concern for me, though mostly with original fiction where I care a lot less cuz none of the characters are entirely me, just have some aspects of my personality. And I actually expected that I’d write Maura too much like myself, not Jane. Though I have only written Maura through the (third person) eyes of Jane so far. And I have always said that if you combined Jane and Maura’s personalities (and sucked out of all their awesomeness), you’d get someone very similar to me.
Anyway, I have written 2287 words of the first draft of an R&I fic (and femslash – I am finally writing femslash instead of bitching about how not enough people write f/f) and it is going wonderfully. Yay me for succeeding at goals (thus so far).
In other news, my mouse batteries croaked and I’m posting this from the WordPress iPhone app. Likely something will end up wrong. Also, I forgot the HTML for the more tag and can’t be arsed to google it so suffer with the lack of a cut.
Not that I’m ever consistent with remembering to cut posts. Sorry for making you all scroll.

Does Robin Dunne have some sorta clause in his contract that says that he gets to be in every episode of Sanctuary or something?
Cut for spoilers. Not that the cuts work in the RSS feed, so, uhhh, suckers?

Not that I’m entirely certain that some of these things even happened. It is, after all, a list compiled from clips I’ve seen on YouTube, conversations with friends and stuff referred to in fanfic. In no particular order, of course.
- Sarah Jane’s stuffed owl. All I know is that it was in the scene where Four and Sarah parted ways and it was absolutely adorable and I absolutely want one.
- Romana. Particularly, Romana I. Blame Darcy for that one.
- Jamie and his kilt.
- The Master’s inflatable chair of death and his strangling of the Doctor with a telephone cord. YouTube and Darcy again.
- Liz Shaw. Fanfic, actually. I’ve read a lot of fic with her in it. I should stop reading Sarah Jane fic when I haven’t seen a lot of Classic Who – so many references keep flying over my head.
- Jo Grant. Cuz she’s awesome on SJA.
- K-9!
- The companion who’s name currently escapes me (dammit!) who apparently has a girlfriend on every planet. Darcy is at fault for this one, of course. She either always knows exactly what will interest me or our tastes are very similar.
- Ace. Who apparently has explosives? I like explosives.
- The penguin companion. Holy shit, a penguin is a companion.
Pretty much everything on this list is Darcy’s fault. Even if she wasn’t listed at fault, I’m still blaming her.
