Another year, another NaNoWriMo novel!
Which, strangely, I haven’t talked about yet here. Ehhh, not much to say – it’s just set in the future (future) on a generation ship. It’s sci-fi crime (surprise surprise) and involves an asshole PI and an icy biophysicist from different time periods. Saying that they do not get along would be an understatement, but the PI loves money and the biophysicist needs answers.
As with all of my NaNo novels, spelling errors are going to be abundant. Even more so this year, since Scrivener for Windows (oh thank you god – that program is my killer app for OS X and, well, now I have no reason to buy a macbook air other than they’re really fucking pretty and, dammit, I still kind of want one) has the worst spell check in the world. Oh well, it’s beta. And like I give a flying fuck about my spelling in a rough draft.
I am also lacking entirely on things like, oh, setting descriptions because I’m epic stupid and really hate describing scenes. I’d much rather draw it… which is, needless to say, really fucking stupid for a novel (but fine for a comic). I’m going to try on working on that this year but… I forgot already.
Oh well.
So, without any further ado, I’m going to c+v in my November 1st writing now. Just follow the cut! (Or, well, keep scrolling if you’re reading via RSS.)

Word Count: ~1800
Rating: PG
Summary: Alexis asks Beckett for advice on a possible summer job – modelling. Ryan and Esposito add their two cents and Castle shows up to stir up trouble.
For once, the 12
th Precinct was quiet. The dead heat of summer was pounding on the sidewalks and many of the officers dragging in the latest batch of scumbags had sweat darkening their shirts, but inside the building the A/C was working overtime and the internal temperature floated only a few degrees above room temperature. The comfortable warmth made the usually alert detectives drowsy, including the normally wired Kate Beckett. Even the quantities of caffeine Beckett consumed were not enough to counteract the warmth, late nights and the blessed lack of Castle, a combination that had Kate drowsing at her desk.
In fact, Kate had nearly nodded off entirely when she heard Alexis’ voice. It sounded suspiciously like a cheerful ‘Hi Kate!’ but that couldn’t be right – it was two in the afternoon. Alexis still had class and, barring a family emergency, Alexis would never skip class.
Kate’s eyes snapped open in realisation and her body tensed, ready to act, and she pinned Alexis with a serious stare. “What’s wrong, Alexis?”

Category: Romance with a touch of pwp
Rating: R
Word Count: ~2200
Summary: What Kate wrote… and what Rick read. A spiritual sequel, of sorts, to Fangirl. [Heat/Rook… and Castle/Beckett by extension]
A/N: While technically a sequel (interquel?) to a previous fic I wrote, it’s not necessary to read it first. Either order, or just reading one or the other, will be perfectly fine.
Title: Tequila Sunrise
Author: CrumblingSpire
Fandom: Heat novels
Category: Romance
Pairing: Heat/Rook
Rating: R
Summary: Heat, Rook, a boring cocktail party and a convenient coat closet.
Author’s Note: Written at two am with a glass (or three) of wine. You’ve been warned.
Nikki Heat smirked inwardly as she swept, fashionably late, into Rook’s magazine’s cocktail party. The formfitting wine red dress, accented in gold, drew looks and the lithe, athletic form it cased kept the gazes on Nikki. Despite all of the admiring stares, Nikki felt Rook’s eyes on her and she turned to face him with a saucy smile. Rook’s Adam’s apple bobbed and he absently set his champagne glass on a nearby table. The air between the two smouldered and the other partygoers unconsciously cleared a direct route to Nikki for Rook.
They stood facing each other, standing just a bit closer than polite society demands, and the tension crackled in the slight space between them.

Title: Fangirl
Fandom: Castle
Genre: Humour/Crack
Characters: Kate Beckett and Rick Castle
Word Count: ~1000
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: None. Unless fangirl!Beckett disturbs you.
Spoilers: Inspired by Suicide Squeeze and references to One Man’s Treasure, amoung others.
Summary: Buzzed on wine, high on Castle’s delicious smut scenes, Kate Beckett fires up Word and indulges in her own guilty pleasure.
—
It was two am and Katherine Beckett could not sleep. Not an uncommon occurrence – her all nighters spent staring at the murder board, followed by power naps in the break room, (and that time she broke into the Captain’s office and passed out on his much more comfortable couch) were a bit of a legend in the Twelfth Precinct. But it wasn’t murder keeping Beckett awake that night.
No.
It was far more frustrating problem. And it was all Castle’s fault.

(Some people will understand why I named a rat Alan after I ‘sploded it. Others will not. I’ll go back later (ie, when editing this disaster) and fill in some descriptions to make the rat murdering more fun. This was written entirely in word wars, yay! So nonsense abounds. (Then again, I write pretty much everything in word wars…))
Apparently, for Katryn, it did not. That room would never be the same as it was before the fire damage.
The rest of the week passed in much the same fashion – Katryn constantly overpowered her spells and blew things up (much to her delight, Poehr had given up on asking her to power down the magic once he realised she was doing it on purpose), Weorn got his ass handed to him in the practice yard, Lillian had moved on from healing paper cuts to mending broken bones and deep gashes, Carson had managed to summon a small ferret (much to his everlasting horror – Katryn alternatively thought it was the cutest thing ever and the most hilarious thing she had ever seen. She ended up keeping it as a pet.) and Cassandra had rapidly assimilated the lute and proved to Eilyn that she was perfectly capable of barding. Eilyn, happy to get rid of a student (they rarely interested her for more than a week), passed Cassandra off to Silvanus. Under Silvanus’ tutelage, Cassandra started pick pocketing with some additions of her own – she had discovered that music had its own kind of magic in this world and, if she hummed the right melody, she could keep people from noticing her existence. Very useful for a thief.
By the end of the week, Viandir was ready to throw them out to the wolves, so to speak, so he gathered them together to explain their first quest. Their reactions were not quite what he was hoping for.
